Field trip to Cumberland Island, GA
We offer a variety of supplemental educational programs each year at Mountain Pathways.
Though these vary based on funding and availability of personnel, typical offerings include Music with our friend Melody Schwantes, Yoga or Foreign Language classes that meet weekly or sometimes more often. We have had professors come in from Appalachian State to teach special science courses, and we have also offered specific reading or math services as needs arise. We are always interested in expanding these offerings, and encourage parents to offer their skills on an academic or extracurricular level whenever possible.
The Montessori curriculum places a heavy focus on having students “Go Out” into their world. With the addition of our Hatch Montessori Cruising Machine (a.k.a. our bus) opportunities for field trips have expanded dramatically. We hope to have our three and older children out in the world at least once a month, and our older children will be going on a major trip at the end of the year as well. Recent journeys have seen the 9-12ers heading to the Georgia coast, as well as spending time hiking the Appalachian Trail.
The 6-12 year olds also look forward to at least two campouts during the school year, and field trips to Appalachian Ski Mountain and Merlefest are usually student favorites.
