Stella shares the 9-12 field trip with us
The Black Banjo Gathering was a group of people that get together to play traditional music. There were banjos, guitars, violins a piano and a little instrument called the bones.
WHen we arrived at the gathering they were beginning to set up microphones and amps. After a few minutes the first player came out. His name was Boo Hanks. He was playing the guitar, and sang around five songs.
When he finished two men called Hubby Jinkins and Jerron Paxton played. When they finished there were a few more people, but we had to leave and I must thank Miss Kristy and Matt for taking us. We had an awesome time!
So in all, my opinion of this gathering is that is was a great way to remind people of traditions that may have been forgotten.

JUST BECAUSE WE'RE NOT HAVING COMMUNITY WORK DAY DOESN'T MEAN THERE'S NOTHING THAT NEEDS DOING...
  • IF ANYONE COULD HANG A SMALL GUTTER ON THE ROOF OF THE PLAYGROUND CLOSET AT THE CHILDREN'S HOUSE, THAT WOULD BE GREAT. ALL THE MATERIALS ARE HERE, JUST NEED SOMEONE WITH TOOLS AND SKILLS NOW.
  • ALSO, WE NEED THE WINDOW REPLACED IN THE BUS.... STILL.

Toddler News
Spring has most officially sprung in the toddler classroom! The toddlers, to our delight and dismay, are springing right along with the season. I feel certain that every single one grew a foot over spring break, and what a round of three-year old birthdays we have had! With eight out of twelve toddlers moving up to the 3-6 classes next year, we have been busy indeed. Rebecca and I have been spying proudly through the two-way windows as each of our soon-to-be graduates fearlessly navigates their visits to the 3-6 classrooms. It has been so wonderfully rewarding to watch the children complete new works, make new friends, and return to our classroom full of new purpose and pride. Rebecca and I have enjoyed the reports back from Beth, Sara, Elizabeth, Cheryl, Patrick, and of course the children, about how exciting and successful their visits have been : ) Fortunately for us, any fear of an empty toddler nest has been fully alleviated. The next several weeks are chockfull of observers and interviews; it seems that we will have no trouble filling the classroom with new friends for next year. If you have any free time in the next few weeks, be sure to come and peek in on the toddler class! Happy Spring!

Independence and Your Child
This month is "Support Your Child's Independence" Month.
Please help support your child as they strive to become more independent.
Here are some helpful hints/tips:
~Can your child put on & take off their shoes independently?
If they cannot tie laces yet, please provide them with Velcro or slip on shoes
~Can your child button and zip their pants?
If not, please select elastic waist pants for school clothes
~Can your child successfully blow their own nose?
If not, please spend time practicing with them at home
~Can your child open and close their lunch containers independently?
Have them test it out with you, if they cannot open them please select a container that they CAN open & close independently
Your child's sense of self can strengthen and flourish when we take small steps to set them up for success! Children love to feel like they can do something on their own/for themselves! Please support them by paying close attention to the above questions. Observe your child, practice with them and set them up for success!... Thank you
